And they take into account other aspects of my life because this is all they do. And they’re so incredibly good at it.
Speaker 5:
They’re not just specialists in cancer, they become specialists in you.
Speaker 1:
I proved to be a really tough nut, so they had to reach into the toolbox and go into trial treatments, which is a perfect example of being very specific to my type of cancer.
Speaker 4:
As a result of tailoring a treatment that worked for me, I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a mom.
Speaker 1:
By being there, I was afforded the opportunity to have a trial that put me into remission, which is pretty unheard of for my diagnosis.
Speaker 6:
The care is amazing from the doctors to the nurses, right down to the valet who parks my car. They are treating all of me.
Speaker 7:
You felt that you were their only patient. You were their only concern in the world.
Speaker 4:
When you have cancer, you want to see the people that really know what they’re doing and also will do it with a kind, compassionate, loving heart.
Speaker 1:
It’s like family. They’re just incredible people and working incredibly hard for someone like myself and you feel that every step of the way.
Speaker 7:
They gave me a second chance at life.
Speaker 5:
My husband, it was great that we could fortunately walk this journey together. Going through this experience at Dana Farber Brigham, he knew that, in his words, “we got this.” And just that statement alone, let me know that I could stand here today and talk to you because we had it.

Dana Farber Brigham is a phenomenal place because they treat all kinds of cancer. They cater the care for you, for your type of cancer. They ask me about my everyday life and what I’m doing, the stresses I’m going through. They make you feel at ease.

Cancer’s cancer. Mine’s unique to me. And his is unique to him, even though we do have a lot in common. We look alike, we act alike, we have the same jobs, but we are two individual people.

Karen:
I was at work and I developed this incredible pain on the left side of my body and I was rushed to the local hospital for what they thought was a gallbladder attack. But as they did a CT scan, it unraveled that I had a cyst the size of an orange on my ovary. I had stage three ovarian cancer. I knew I was going to go to Dana-Farber Brigham.
Karen:

Maggie:
Getting a diagnosis of breast cancer at age 28 is something that was a complete shock. Understanding that the potential effects of treatment could one day impact my ability to have my own family was in some ways more devastating than hearing the words, you have cancer. My next step was making an appointment to go to Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. I was able to receive a chemotherapy regimen that at the time wasn’t being offered elsewhere. Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center was the only place that had knowledge of this new research. I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a mom. Yeah, I have three beautiful girls.
There are no words. Every day that I’m here is a gift. Right. And then every day that I get to spend with them is an even greater gift.
